Invertebrate-derived DNA

Surveying species based on traces of residual DNA from environmental samples (e/iDNA), offers a potential new tool for wildlife biologists. They are attractive due to their low sampling costs and the possibility to obtain high number of samples in relatively short time. We developed protocols and a complete pipeline for larger scale environmental metabarcoding DNA studies, including a robust and efficient laboratory workflow, bioinformatics pipelines for tetrapod reference database curation and species assignment. We tested and validated those tools on more than 7500 terrestrial leeches from Southeast-Asia.
